TOP TIPS WHEN BOOKING YOUR HONEYMOON!

Choosing the right honeymoon for you is important, but with so many fantastic, romantic destinations, where do you start.....

Honeymoons are personal, it is about just the two of you, - not what others think you should book.  Here are just a few considerations to take into account when choosing your honeymoon destination so that everything runs smoothly.

Gift Service – Why not add your honeymoon to your wedding list, which provides friends and family with the opportunity of contributing towards your honeymoon.  But understand how the Tour Operator will refund any surplus monies to you, some will only provide it as vouchers, not as cash.

Be realistic with the budget..... Staying in an expensive 5* hotel, generally means, 5* expensive prices for food and drink, so make sure you take spending money into consideration.

Weather - this will play an important part of your decision making as not all destinations have year round good weather.  If you have a destination in mind, understand the seasons, is it the best time to go?

Let everyone know it's your honeymoon!!  Free upgrades are often available with hoteliers but are unlikely with Airlines, but you might get better seats, or a glass of champagne on-board, so mention it to them also when checking in.

Remember to book your honeymoon early to avoid availability issues, but perhaps don't rush off on your honeymoon the morning after you’re married, consider leaving it until the following day, - you don't want to be rushing around at the last minute, and you want time to open some of your presents!

Treat yourselves to breakfast in bed, if not included as part of the honeymoon package.  Do something different – it's your honeymoon, and why not consider private transfers to your hotel – it might not be as expensive as you think.

Add spa treatments or excursions to your wedding list – better than another toaster!

Book the airport lounge prior to flying – escape the mayhem of the departure area.  Relax in a quiet lounge, with soft & alcoholic drinks, as well as snacks, and even internet access – a great way to start your honeymoon.

Don't plan to do too much – you will be tired from your wedding day, make sure you plan in relaxation days - your chance to chill out by the pool or take in a spa treatment.

Take a few of your wedding pictures with you – as you probably have not had much time to look at any.

Make sure you book with an ABTA & ATOL bonded travel agent – you want to make sure your money is safe in the event of failure

Decide if you want to travel in your married or maiden name.  Remember if you are going to be travelling overseas before the wedding, - change your name after the honeymoon.  Airlines charge quite hefty admin fees now for changing a name on a ticket, so be sure you select the best option for you.  My advice – travel in your maiden name, you have so much to organise before the wedding, without form filling and the expense of a new passport.
